Speaker of Senate met Apostolic Nuncio to Kazakhstan and Central Asia

The Speaker of the Senate of Parliament of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, met Apostolic Nuncio to Kazakhstan and Central Asia, archbishop Miguel Maury Buendia, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Senate of Parliament.

Astana. October 14. Kazakhstan Today - The Speaker of the Senate of Parliament of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, met Apostolic Nuncio to Kazakhstan and Central Asia, archbishop Miguel Maury Buendia, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Senate of Parliament.

"Archbishop presented the chairman of the Senate - the chairman of Secretariat of Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, K. Tokayev, the reciprocal letter of the State Secretary of Vatican, T. Burton," the press service informs.

"In the letter the State Secretary of the Sacred Throne, having expressed gratitude for the invitation to the VII session of the Secretariat, which will take place on October 28-29, 2008 in Almaty, informed that at the forthcoming meeting Vatican will be represented by the chairman of Department for Islam of Pontifical Council of Interreligious Dialogue, Haled Akashi."

According to the press release, "M. Buendia assured the chairman of the Upper Chamber that the Sacred Throne will support henceforth efforts of Kazakhstan in carrying out of Congress of Leaders of World and Authoritative National Religions aimed at strengthening of peace and interconfessional concord at the global level."

"K. Tokayev thanked for constant support of the Sacred Throne to the Kazakhstan initiative directed at development of interreligious dialogue and noted the importance of further development of mutual relations between Kazakhstan and Vatican."
