Almaty oblast regional authorities pulled down 12 more Krishna houses

Almaty. June 15. Kazakhstan Today - Almaty oblast authority of Karasay region pulled down 12 more houses belonging to the members of Society for Krishna Consciousness on Friday, June 15, the religious community informed the agency.

"Twelve houses of believers have been completely destroyed within three hours," the community informed.

The Krishna temple has not been destroyed. At the same time Krishna members say that there is a threat of destruction of the temple. "The temple, cow-shed and other constructions on the territory of the community can be destroyed at any moment," the religious community says.

As it was informed earlier, the conflict around Krishna community has been lasting since 2004. In November 2006, local authorities pulled down 14 houses of the community. On June 6, 2007, the akim of Karasay district handed a notification to the Society for Krishna Consciousness stating "illegally constructed buildings situated on this land including the temple of the Society for Krishna Consciousness and the cowshed be demolished in 10 days. "The officials of Kazakhstan made declarations that the conflict around the Hare Krishna will be resolved by giving the community an alternative piece of land. However no piece of land has been given so far," the document states.
