China needs $33 million for restoration of areas suffered from earthquake - UN

An appeal to the countries-donors regarding donation of $33 million for restoration of the territories suffered from earthquake in China in May, 2008 was presented on Friday in the UN headquarters, the agency reports referring to UN News Center.

Almaty. July 28. Kazakhstan Today - An appeal to the countries-donors regarding donation of $33 million for restoration of the territories suffered from earthquake in China in May, 2008 was presented on Friday in the UN headquarters, the agency reports referring to UN News Center.

Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, Kemal Dervish, informed that the United Nations have already donated $8 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund and $9 million has been received from other sources. The resources are spent on reconstruction of houses, public health services, food and other vital needs fro the victims.

K. Dervish noted that within realization of the program of humanitarian aid there is a possibility of not only restoring, but also improving of some structures in the suffered areas.
