Earthquake in China left 1.4 million people below the breadline

Earthquake in the Chinese province Sichuan has left 1.4 million residents of four thousand remote villages in absolute poverty. Director of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development informed on Monday, the agency reports referring to Information Agency China Daily.

Almaty. July 15. Kazakhstan Today - Earthquake in the Chinese province Sichuan has left 1.4 million residents of four thousand remote villages in absolute poverty. Director of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development informed on Monday, the agency reports referring to Information Agency China Daily.

According to Director of the State Council, each village, on average, requires investments of 3 million yuan ($438 thousand) for restoration of housing, infrastructure and basic services. It means that the government should allocate minimum 12 billion yuan within three years to satisfy basic needs of countrymen of provinces of Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi.

The majority of countrymen do not wish to leave the villages. They plan to build new houses.

The government of China will develop the program of restoration of each poor village by the end of the next month and of incentives for local residents who are taking part in restoration.
