Kazakh President signed decree on expansion of seaport Aktau

Aktau. February 14. Kazakhstan Today - The President of the Republic Nursultan Nazarbayev signed the decree according to which the present territory of the special economic zone Seaport Aktau (227.1 hectares) increases up to 982.3 hectares. The oblast akim (mayor) Krymbek Kusherbayev said on Tuesday at the expanded session of the regional akimat (mayor office), the agency reports.

According to K.Kusherbaeva, the President signed the decree on February 7.

The purpose of the economic zone expansion - effective utilization of Aktau port for the rapid involvement of the Republic into world trade, for maintenance of steady economic growth, increase of competitiveness of the economy and decrease of the rate of unemployment.

According to the experts' estimations, with the development of the transport corridor the North - the South, one of which will become port Aktau, the increase in transit of cargoes along the route of the countries of the Asian-Pacific region and the Persian gulf - Iran - the Caspian region - Russia - the countries of the East and Western Europe has been forecasted.

Since January 1, 2003 according to the decree of the Kazakh President dated April 26, 2002 the special economic zone Seaport Aktau has been functioning in Mangystau oblast, the period of validity of which has been prolonged till 2015.
