Kazakhstan to ratify Kyoto Protocol - Environmental Protection Minister

Astana. October 3. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan will ratify Kyoto Protocol in the near future. The Minister of Environmental Protection of Kazakhstan, Nurlan Iskakov, said during the conference - International Carbon Market: Mechanisms and Opportunities of Participation, the agency reports.

"Kazakhstan has started the process of ratification of Kyoto Protocol that was promoted by the visit of the President, Nursultan Nazarbayev, to Japan where the arrangement was reached," N. Iskakov said.

"The Ministry has developed the plan of measures on realization of the assignment of the President on ratification of Kyoto Protocol and has conducted the works on creation of the authorized national body," the Minister informed.

"I consider that Kyoto Protocol has incorporated the best qualities of management of preservation of environment and allows providing its realization according to steady development," the Minister of Environmental Protection said.

"Kazakhstan actively participates in the international negotiation process directed at prevention of change of climate and mitigation of those consequences," N. Iskakov said. "In May, 1995 Kazakhstan ratified the The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and on March 12, 1999 Kazakhstan signed The Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change," he reminded.
