Main theme of 63rd UNESCAP session - development of systems of public health- Tazhin

Almaty. May 17. Kazakhstan Today - The main theme of the 63rd session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) is the development of the systems of public health services. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Marat Tazhin said today at the session of senior officials during the 63rd UNESCAP session, the agency reports.

"The choice of the theme allows to draw attention to a set of other problems that the countries of the Asian-Pacific region are facing nowadays," he added.

According to the Minister, "one of the priority issues is the question of universal development of the systems of public health services with a view to provide availability of a minimum level of medical services for the population."

M. Tazhin reminded that "Kazakhstan as the largest midland state in the world is interested in effective realization of the Almaty program of actions for the landlocked developing countries." The document has been accepted following the results of the first global ministerial conference of the United Nations on the problems of the landlocked developing countries taken place in Almaty, August 2003.
