Anti- drug cooperation to be strengthened within Shanghai Cooperation Organization

The member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will strengthen their anti- drug cooperation. The chairmen of Security Councils of the SCO member countries stated during the meeting with the President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, the agency reports citing ITAR TASS.

Almaty. May 21. Kazakhstan Today - The member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will strengthen their anti- drug cooperation. The chairmen of Security Councils of the SCO member countries stated during the meeting with the President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, the agency reports citing ITAR TASS.

According to D. Medvedev, among the challenges that the SCO states face are the "questions of struggle against criminality, including drug trafficking and the questions of maintenance of regional security in the context of those problems we have with a number of the neighboring states, which, to a certain extent, create pressure for our countries," the President of the Russian Federation added.

During the meeting its participants expressed common opinion on the necessity of essential escalation of anti-drug cooperation within the SCO. The SCO countries will be involved in creation around Afghanistan of the 'belt' of antinarcotics and financial security and in the international drug operation 'Channel' carried out under the CSTO aegis.

According to ITAR TASS, the results of the meeting of Secretaries of Security Councils of the SCO states will be used at the SCO summit in June in Ekaterinburg.
