Kazakhstan to hold early presidential elections

The President of Kazakhstan initiated holding pre-scheduled presidential elections, the agency reports.

Astana. February 1. Kazakhstan Today - The President of Kazakhstan initiated holding pre-scheduled presidential elections, the agency reports.

Addressing the people of Kazakhstan in Akorda , the head of state, Nursultan Nazarbayev, said he decided not to hold the referendum. "Instead of this, I suggest holding pre-scheduled presidential elections. In accordance with the legislation, I will submit this proposition for the Parliament's consideration," the President said.

A joint sitting of the Chambers of the Parliament will be held on February 2. The deputies will consider the president's proposition on the early elections.

As informed earlier, the Constitutional Council of Kazakhstan, having considered the appeal of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, regarding conformity of the law on the amendments and additions to the Constitution of Kazakhstan with the Constitution of Kazakhstan, declared that the amendments passed by the Parliament on extending presidential term of the current president until December, 2020 contradict the existing constitutional norms.
