Majilis adopted government mass media amendments

Astana. June 21. Kazakhstan Today - Today at the plenary session Majilis deputies, having cancelled the resolution adopted at the last session, adopted the bill "On amendments and additions in mass media acts” in the first reading, the agency reports.

At today's plenary session the deputies planned to debate the bill in the second reading. However, before the beginning of the discussion Majilis deputy Dariga Nazarbayeva stated that in the first reading the bill was adopted with infringement and demanded to hold repeated voting.

"Last time, when we voted there were certain failures in voting system," D. Nazarbayeva said. "According to the stenogram from June 14-15, Asanov, Kadyrov, Nigmatulin, Tshanov were absent at the plenary session. However, when I looked through the listing (results of voting - Kazakhstan Today commentary) the above-mentioned names of the deputies, except for Tshanov were included as voted pro. In this connection there is a question on legitimacy of the resolution made by us," the deputy concluded.

D. Nazarbayeva suggested holding voting on the bill in the first reading again. After short debate the bill was adopted by Majilis for the second time in the first reading. 46 deputies voted for, 10 – voted against, three refrained.

Majilis started debates of the bill in the second reading.
