Berlusconi sells Colosseum

Businessman, in particular, the governing network of shoe stores Tod's, will receive the exclusive right to commercial use of images of the Coliseum for 15 years. In exchange, Della Valle, who is considered an ally of Berlusconi, will allocate 25 million euros for the restoration of the Colosseum. The company Tod's will have exclusive right to rent the Coliseum and use in Italy and outside images of emperors of the Flavian dynasty, under the rule which was built amphitheater.

Companies allowed to place its logo on the inputs and the scaffolding around the Coliseum. According to El Pais, the text of the agreement between the Government of Italy, and Della Valle has never been published. Meanwhile, representatives of the Italian trade union UIL filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office in Rome and the Financial Guard, because they believe that a dealto transfer the Coliseum for Della Valle - a violation of the law.

Secretary-General of Trade Union Gianfranco Cherazoli argues that under the Constitution, the Coliseum can only belong to the state. Cherazoli added that the contract price is low. Reuters reports officials said the branding will be discreet, such as relatively small placards at the base of the Colosseum recognizing Tod's as the sponsor. The company will also film the restoration and use it in its publicity.

The 80 A.D. Roman amphitheatre, which housed bloody public spectacles including gladiator fights, mock sea battles and animal shows, is one of the world's most famous monuments and attracts 6 million visitors each year.
