EC Vice President supports Astana intention to join European policy of neighborhood

Astana. October 5. Kazakhstan Today - Vice President of European Commission, the Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry Gunter Verheugen supports the intention of Kazakhstan to join the European policy of neighborhood. He stated it at the meeting with Kazakh Foreign Minister Kasymzhomart Tokayev who is on the first official visit to EU structures in Brussels.

EC Vice President noted that Kazakhstan, which dynamical development is the important factor of preservation of stability in Central Asia represents the most important partner of EU in the region.

During the talks Kazakhstan diplomat acquainted the interlocutor with the key positions of Industrial and Innovative Development Program of Kazakhstan and the strategic goal of Kazakhstan entry into 50 most competitive states of the world.

In this connection Gunter Verheugen emphasized similarity of economic development plans of the European Union and Kazakhstan the basis of which is the innovative policy and increase of competitiveness. He also confirmed practical interest to further development of full-scale cooperation with Kazakhstan.

As it was informed earlier, accepted by EU in 2004 the European policy of neighborhood is intended for neighboring countries that do not participate in integration into the European Union. It is directed at strengthening economic integration and political partnership with EU and includes 16 countries, including Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
