Yerbolat Sembayev, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Italy, laid flowers at a memorial obelisk in Trieste honouring 36 Kazakh soldiers of the 30th Division of the Ninth Corps of the Yugoslav People’s Liberation Army who died during World War II while helping liberate northern regions of Italy. Representatives of local authorities, civil society organisations, and the Kazakh diaspora also took part in the ceremony, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.
Ambassador Yerbolat Sembayev congratulated those gathered on Victory Day in World War II, noting that the occasion symbolises the immortal sacrifice of our ancestors, who defended their homeland in the bloodiest war in human history. He emphasised the significant contribution of the Kazakh people to victory over nazism, noting that many Kazakhstanis voluntarily went to the front and gave their lives for the freedom and independence of their homeland.
Today, thanks to this memorial obelisk in Trieste, we proudly remember the names of those who gave their lives for victory. Hundreds of our compatriots, through their immortal acts of courage, forever inscribed their names in the history of the Great Victory. A conference dedicated to the historical legacy of the Great Victory was held in Athens, organized by the Greek public discussion club "Dialogos". During the event, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Greece Timur Sultangozhin presented Kazakhstan’s approaches to preserving historical memory, strengthening social unity, and promoting the principles of peace and international cooperation amid current global challenges, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.
In his speech, it was noted that the memory of the Great Patriotic War occupies a special place in the historical consciousness of the people of Kazakhstan. More than 1.2 million people from Kazakhstan were drafted into the ranks of the Red Army, and 600 thousand of them never returned from the battlefield. The Ambassador emphasized that these figures reflect not only the scale of the tragedy, but also the enormous price the nation paid for peace and freedom.
The lessons of the war remind us that humanity must remain united in the face of common challenges and reject any ideologies that seek to divide societies" the Ambassador of Kazakhstan emphasized.
The conference also presented the political transformations currently underway in Kazakhstan. It was noted that the constitutional reforms initiated by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev are aimed at building a more just and inclusive state based on the principles of rule of law, respect for human rights, social harmony, and social responsibility.
Special attention during the conference was paid to the importance of preserving international dialogue, mutual respect, and the search for balanced solutions amid growing global tensions.

Kazakhstan plans to digitize school medical checkups
Tell a friend
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Health plans to transition school preventive medical examinations to a digital format and strengthen the early detection of health issues among children, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the ministry.
Speaking at the meeting, Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova said the current approach to preventive medical checkups for schoolchildren remains largely formal, with priority given to quantitative targets rather than high-quality diagnostics.
To improve the system, the ministry is proposing a comprehensive set of measures, including modernization of the current screening model, the use of digital technologies to process examination results, and the transfer of certain functions to mid-level medical staff.
A shortage of specialized doctors and the heavy workload on medical staff lead to shorter examination times per child, superficial diagnostics, and low rates of detecting health disorders. Another issue is the insufficient monitoring of children with special educational needs and children with disabilities," said Magripa Yembergenova, director of the department for maternal and child health protection.
To strengthen preventive healthcare for children, schools will be equipped with digital electrocardiographs, pulse oximeters, height-and-weight measurement systems, otoscopes, and telemedicine solutions featuring automated data transmission.
According to the ministry, schools may later also receive intraoral cameras, plantographs, and autorefractors.
The minister instructed officials to ensure the full digitalization of children’s preventive medical examinations and integrate all data into the Ministry of Health’s information systems through the creation of electronic child health passports.
All data related to children’s health must be systematically accumulated, analyzed, and monitored throughout a person’s life. This will ensure continuity in medical observation and improve the effectiveness of early disease detection," Akmaral Alnazarova emphasized.
The minister also instructed authorities to begin the phased introduction of the updated format of preventive examinations and school healthcare in all schools across the country starting September 1, 2026.

The Soyuz-5 (Sunkar) completed its inaugural launch late Thursday night, marking the operational debut of the modernized Baiterek launch infrastructure, Qazinform News Agency reports.
The Soyuz-5 rocket, carrying a mock payload, had been transported on March 31 via the Baikonur Cosmodrome’s railway from the assembly and testing facility at Site 42 and installed vertically on the launch pad at Site 45. For nearly a month, comprehensive tests of the ground complex and the new rocket were conducted at the Baiterek launch site.
The first test launch was carried out along a suborbital trajectory, without placing the mock payload into Earth orbit. The main objective was to test the performance of the launch complex equipment, rocket engines, onboard systems, and software.
The Baiterek space rocket complex is a joint project between Kazakhstan and Russia to develop ground-based space infrastructure at the Baikonur Cosmodrome for launches using rockets powered by environmentally friendly fuel components.
