Mass death of sayga happened in the Zhanibek area of the Western Kazakhstan area. According to the press service of the Emergency Ministry of Kazakhstan, the ministry was informed of mass death of sayga in the territory of the Zhanibek area, where the Ural sayga is concentrated, on May 20 at 11.20 from the Zhaksybay rural district from the settlements Aydarly and Zhumash and from the Borsin rural district from the settlements Vyshka, Kaydar, and Shalash.
According to the press service of the Agriculture Ministry, "the inspectors saw grey fog, though the weather in this area was clear and cloudless."
