Kazakhstan and Liège: Industry, Logistics and Innovation at the Center of Regional Dialogue

As part of a working visit to the Province of Liège, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belgium, Roman Vassilenko, held a meeting with the Governor of the Province of Liège, Hervé Jamar, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Province of Liège, with particular emphasis on opportunities to expand interaction in the trade and economic, industrial, logistics, scientific, educational and innovation sectors.

Ambassador noted that Kazakhstan views the Province of Liège as an important European partner with a strong industrial base, modern logistics infrastructure and a robust research and innovation ecosystem. In this context, Kazakhstan’s interest in building long-term, project-oriented partnerships based on economic complementarity and practical interregional cooperation was underscored.

Particular attention was paid to logistics and transport, including the potential for developing cooperation in multimodal transport, air cargo services and the integration of Eurasian transport routes with European logistics hubs. The parties also highlighted promising opportunities for cooperation in industrial modernization, metallurgy, engineering solutions, as well as in the context of the energy transition and the deployment of green technologies.

Education, science and innovation constituted a separate area of discussion. The parties expressed mutual interest in developing cooperation between universities and research centers in Kazakhstan and the Province of Liège, including in engineering, applied sciences, agrotechnologies and aerospace research.

During the meeting, R.Vassilenko briefed his counterpart in detail on the progress of large-scale political and socio-economic reforms underway in Kazakhstan. Special attention was given to the outcomes of the most recent session of the National Kurultai, which outlined key priorities for modernizing public administration, strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring the country’s sustainable development. Views were also exchanged on the draft of the new Constitution of Kazakhstan currently under discussion, aimed at further reinforcing the rule of law, expanding civic participation in public life and improving the effectiveness of state institutions.

Governor Hervé Jamar positively assessed the reforms being implemented in Kazakhstan, emphasized the potential for expanding interregional cooperation, and expressed readiness to facilitate direct contacts between the business, academic and institutional communities of the Province of Liège and Kazakhstan.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening practical cooperation at the regional level and agreed to continue dialogue with a view to implementing concrete joint initiatives and projects.
